The Forbidden Christ AKA Strange Deception
Curzio Malaparte's The Forbidden Christ (Italy, 1951) - 9/10 - winning top award at both Berlin and Cannes Film Festival in 1951, this Italian Masterpiece is about a man who return home after years spent in Russian POW camp to avenge the death of his partisan brother in the hand of German after the betrayal of one of the villager. Curzio Malaparte, a controversial, Italian author and intellectual, whose works at various times condemned by both Benito Mussolini and The Vatican, make this film, his only film he ever directed.
